Welcome

Hello,  my name is Dave Chamberlain of Chula Vista, California. This web site is a project dedicated to all trailer sailors who dream of blue-water sailing in their small sailboat.  "Mini" is the name of my 20' twin-keeled Vivacity which sailed from San Diego to Hawaii in 1992.  Welcome and thank you for visiting.

"mini" is a 20 foot British twin-keeled yawl.  She started out as a Vivacity class sloop and has been modified.  She was built in Barcelona, Spain in 1967.   We purchased her from Carl Hubbell on January of 1988 for $1500.   At the time, I owned a Venture 21 which I cruised and raced here in Chula Vista, a city in south San Diego Bay, California.   I really enjoyed my Venture 21.  She won a lot of races and was easy to trailer.  There were three things about the Venture that made me dream about finding a different small cruiser:  1)  She was so light and fragile.  2)  She drew 5'11" with her keel locked in the down position.  3)  Her cabin was very small and tight.

The first time I saw Carl's powder blue (the color was hard on me) Vivacity 20, as it pulled up next to my boat at the Chula Vista Harbor's launch ramp, I new she was the sailboat for me.  I've always been interested in twin-keeled sailboats.  The more I read about them, the more they made sense to me.  For more reading on twin-keelers, click here. "mini" is a proud member of the Venture Yacht Club of San Diego.  VYC could possibly be one of the greatest trailer sailboat club anywhere.
